Brooklyn Jones, ‘Brooklyn In The Summer’ by Aloe Blacc
I love this time of year for several reasons: the weather gets much better, you can wear all the clothes that have been hiding in the back of your wardrobe, and singles emerge and compete to be the song of the summer. This single is definitely a strong competitor, Aloe Blacc is a very talented songwriter and this song is the perfect uptempo tune to get you in the mood for summer. Also, I’m biased due to the title… I believe this is Blacc’s strongest single since ‘I Need A Dollar’ came out and I’m excited to see what he does next.
Freddie Metherell, ‘Iguana Bird’ by Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson
Over the last decade, Scarlett Johansson’s acting career has thrust her into the heights of glitz and glamour. Spread across magazine covers worldwide, you would have to have your head in the sand to not recognise her face. Her singing career however has been far from extravagant. Almost a decade on from the release of Break Up with friend Pete Yorn, Johansson has found time in her manic schedule to lay some vocals down for a beautiful new track ‘Iguana Bird’. She sings with a weightlessness that floats back and forth charmingly with Yorn’s harmonies. It is the perfect ingredient for the start of a hazy, dreamy summer.
