Freddie Metherell, ‘Liberated’ by DeJ Loaf feat. Leon Bridges
Detroit based DeJ Loaf is releasing a new album soon and the title track has just dropped. It has me hooked. This song is a wholesome and utterly inclusive call to be proud to represent yourself for yourself. The music matches the uplifting message of the vocals that demand ‘If you got the feeling, get up on your feet’. In perfect timing for the start of the summer, this tune has a Caribbean twist with steel drums aplenty. As the featured artist on the track, Leon Bridges’ vocals are in the higher echelons of his range than audiences have come accustomed to, but faultless as ever. This may just be blaring out of our radios for the duration of the next few long hot months.
Brooklyn Jones, ‘Clandestino’ by Shakira and Maluma
Shakira recently told the BBC, that every time she meets up with Maluma they can’t help but write a new hit single together, and Clandestino is no exception. It’s the perfect summer track, as salsa always gets me in a summery mood (not you Despacito, you go sit down). Also, having seen Shakira perform live on Monday, I haven’t been able to stop listening since. If you care to look up and then google translate the lyrics, they are beautifully written and definitely worth checking out. This song is perfect for filling the hopefully hot summer nights, and fits into either a chill or dance playlist. What more could you ask for??
Amar Mehta, ‘Warning’ by Bugzy Malone
Bugzy Malone released ‘Warning’ last week, which seemed to go under the radar, overshadowed by Lily Allen and Jorja Smith’s new albums. However, if this is a taster of the MCs new album that its raised the bar. Performing at Parklife last weekend, Bugzy had the crowd bouncing and ‘Warning’ was no doubt a highlight of his site. The self-proclaimed King of the North showed he’s still go it with this new tune and it’s a must listen too.
